I have twins so I ordered this Pink Tulip Fairy and purple Sugar Plum Fairy, they are obviously different colors and have other slight differences but overall they are about the same(I am just copy & pasting this review for both colors)Before I go into detail about these outfits I will first share our Trick or Treating experience. The first house we went to started our night of non-stop compliments on these outfits. We passed a ton of other little fairies and just about every parent of those fairies complimented my girls outfits and how cute they were and said they wished they had seen these when looking for costumes, many people asked if I had made them and started to ask me to make them one, lol. We could be standing at a house with a group of trick or treaters and most of the time the 'candy giver' would only compliment my girls costumes. We were invited into several houses(in my friendly neighborhood) just so their family members could look how cute these costumes were. So, now that you get the point that you will get a LOT of attention and compliments if your kid wears these costumes, I'll move onto something else.
First Impressions...
Wrinkles: When you 1st get this out of the bag...don't let first impressions fool you. These were one huge wrinkled mess but this was remedied with our clothes steamer...the green around the neck still wanted to keep folding and rolling under so that took the longest to fix but it still rolled under a little but wasn't a big deal.
Floppy Wings: so you notice how the advertised picture shows cute wings sticking up(go ahead, take a look) well the wings you get are just a flopped over mess, they don't really stick up at all. If you attach them as they come, you really can't even see them from a front view. BUT this is an easy fix. You can either use spray starch, hair spray or buy an actual fabric stiffener like 'Stiffen Stuff'(the spray kind). I used heavy spray starch, a towel & hair dryer. Just take your wings and lay them on the towel velcro side down then 1 wing at a time spray a thick layer of starch(I sprayed till the wing was white from so much starch. At this point you can move the wings to make sure they are flat and in the shape you want them(I used a clothes pin to help me pin the wings more upright(like a butterfly shape) and then turn my hair dryer on high and blow the wing till it is dry. You can also use clothes pins at first to hold your wings from moving while you dry them. It really doesn't take too long to get them stiff. I did this several different times and they actually did stick up just like in the picture. Keep in mind that if you will be picking your kid up and down a lot that the wings are going to get flattened again but in all honesty, it really did not matter. I think if you want your wings to last the longest of being stiff that you should use an actual fabric stiffener. The fact that the wings can velcro on and off is awesome so you don't smoosh their wings putting them in their carseat.
Crappy Headband: Right out of the package I thought the head pieces were adorable but they just would NOT stay on my daughters heads, they are just the wrong shape & size. I don't see how they would stay on anybodys heads. But my girls do NOT like wearing headbands anyhow so I had always planned to take them off the headband anyhow. So I cut the head piece off of the headband and then I hand sewed a hair rubberband onto(basically just put the rubberband in the same place the headband went) and being on a rubberband actually made the head piece look even more cute & poofy, plus no matter how much they moved or how windy it was, it never got loose or fell off their head like the headband(if it had worked) would have. If you don't want to sew the rubberband onto the head piece I imagine that hot glue would probably work too. If your kid doesn't have enough hair for a rubber band, you can always get a crochet headband and glue or sew the head piece to that, or hot glue the headpiece to an alligator clip and attach it to a crochet headband. I think the headpiece is a very important part of making this outfit Super Cute!
The shoes: I don't know how many laughs and comments we got on just the shoes alone but they were a huge hit! They HAVE to wear shoes inside of these if they are going to be walking because they are only a slipper like material. You need to have a more narrow shoe or it probably won't fit inside of the slipper. We went to 2 nights of trick or treat and by the 2nd night, the bottoms of the shoes had tons of holes in them. The green part is all in tact but they were only wearing them for Trick or Treat anyhow so I don't care about the holes. Besides, they can still be used, if they get too many more holes, you can just attach a strap of elastic or maybe some stronger material to the bottom of the slipper(like a stirrup pant) so it would stay on the feet.
Dress: besides the wrinkles, really no complaints. The under part is a shiny material and it has tulle on top of that. From the picture it looks like there is a lot more tulle than there actually is but still, not a big deal. I think it having less tulle made it easier for my girls to move around easily and be held easily. Also, the way this dress is(not fitted & no sleeves) makes it great for different sized kids or if you are going to put warmer clothes under them. It was really cold so we put a long sleeve onesie, thick fleece jacket, thick tights, leggins & sweat pants and the outfit was still gorgeous and not uncomfortable or tight.
All in all, this outfit is really just super cute, a great buy for the money. I would definately recommend it. Also, my girls have worn these around playing in them multiple times as well and they have yet to fall apart. Now, if you are looking for something of high quality(like for a pageant) then you need to look at costumes that are much more expensive because although there is NOTHING wrong with these outfits, I think some people would think the quality was poor. I also am pretty certain that we got more candy because of these outfits, there were several times that someone would give them a piece of candy and then a second later give them another piece for being extra cute ; )
Let me know if you have any questions and I will do my best to help you out : )
