A great pith helmet, and it FITS my huge head, comfortably. I don't know what the core of it is, but it is nicely solid and thick, and with the formed cloth cover, it really wears nice. As for the OTHER largeness in the rim, it is real sun protection, and plenty of it. Made in Vietnam, and I am pretty sure worn by the Vietnam police. But it fits me, so I'm happy. As mentioned, the chin strap is really good only for wrapping over the brim. It looks good like that. It is nicely different from the standard Pressed form sun hats, and has a wide back and a semi point at the front. It is not just for costumes, but could be worn riding a camel across the desert. I'd recommend it.
